“Now the overseer [or pastor] must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?) He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap.” 1 Timothy 3:2-7
Fluent in speaking Karen, Thai, Burmese and English, Pastor Jimmy Shwe moved to the U.S. in August of 2008 with a special mission to evangelize the Karen people who have recently arrived in the country from Thailand.
In preparation for this task, God has allowed Pastor Jimmy to receive his education in three Adventist institutions in three countries. First he attended Eden Valley Academy High school on the Thai-Burma border where he gained the necessary certifications to study in India. In India, Pastor Jimmy studied at Spicer Memorial College, an Adventist institution of higher learning where he graduated with a B.A. in Religious Philosophy. Later, Pastor Jimmy studied at Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies (AIIAS), located in the Philippines. There he obtained a Master of Arts degree in pastoral ministry.
Prior to coming to the U.S., Pastor Jimmy has served in several church capacities primarily in Bangkok, Thailand. He has served as Karen Youth Pastor, Chaplain for Ramkhamham Adventist International School, chaplain for Mission Health Food Factory, and as an Associate pastor in Bangkok Karen Adventist Church. He has also worked as a school teacher.
Pastor Jimmy and his wonderful wife Wanlapa (Jib) now live in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with their two sons - Joshua and Josiah. Today, Pastor Jimmy travels from State to State overseeing the Karen Seventh-day Adventist Church in the United States.
